Our Story

Growing up can be tough.  We’ve all been there. The emotional rollercoaster of childhood is a given, but what’s not clear is when or how these highs and lows are going to show up, and what the long-term impacts might be.  What if a different way were possible?

Happy Marlo is on a mission to help raise a new generation of adaptable and mindful children, emotionally empowering Gen Alpha so that they feel more confident about navigating the inevitable ups and downs of growing up.

Our dream is for a world where kids are supported to grow into purposeful and mentally strong humans. Setting them up to carry less of the emotional baggage (such as challenging beliefs and low self-esteem) that childhood can store up, and provide more room to thrive as they start to live the life of their own dreams in early adulthood.

We’re aiming for light hearts, and clear creative minds, set up for success, whatever that might look like for them.

Our Founder

I didn’t exactly have the best start in life. This is no sob story, but it’s my story. Born in London in 1978 to a young white mother, and father unknown (let’s agree he was Black Jamaican), a mixed-race baby with a single mother wasn’t exactly the type of ‘family’ UK society favoured at the time. After a turbulent start with my birth mother, I was taken into emergency foster care aged ten months.

Aged three I was adopted by my family, the Clarks. Once again, as a mixed-race little girl growing up in a white family and community, life was challenging. I looked different, felt different, and had no real understanding of where I came from, or where I belonged. These were lonely and confusing times. Feelings of being different at school, and an ‘outsider’ followed me as I grew up, and significant bullying when I was a teen added to more insecurity and low self-esteem. However, resilience! I didn’t know it then, but I had a superpower and one which supports me to this day.

The healing modalities Happy Marlo is bringing to children were not known to me back then. Oh, how I wish they were! This is my gift to all children, and also my inner child. Together we’ve got this, and we are ALWAYS enough.
